As cloud computing proliferate, everybody seems calling out "Infrasturcture 2.0" Here is Infra 2.0 for communication services providerInfrastructure 2.0December 10 2008 by Greg Ness I think it is very likely that network infrastructure will be transformed in coming years by new levels of automation and connectivity intelligence driven by demands from new IT initiatives, from RFID to collaboration, data center virtualization and even cloud computing. I think we’ll call this transformed, dynamic network and all of its potentials “Infrastructure 2.0.” The emergence of a dynamic infrastructure will drive a “Cambrian explosion” of potentials in network, endpoint and application intelligence and usher in the Infrastructure 2.0 era of networking and IT which unleash a torrent of new economies and innovations. Here is archives of SIIA On Demand 2008 conference Videos and presentationsSIIA OnDemand 2008 Conference Videos and Speaker Presentations Phil Wainewright covered "Debunking myths about the SaaS partner channel" with the recommendation to watch the videoBut then in November I moderated a solution provider discussion at the SIIA OnDemand conference in San Jose, in which four solution providers who work with, respectively, Intacct, Intuit, NetSuite and Microsoft, spoke from their own extensive experience. There’s a very good video of the complete session online now. The most surprising insight of this very informative panel discussion was that SaaS solution providers are getting smart at using the Web to sell, close and deliver solutions remotely — often without any face-to-face contact at all. What this tells us is that the trust factor that determines whether a customer is prepared to go ahead or not is more complex than simply a matter of direct personal relationships. Branding, web presence and competence (ie how effectively the vendor and the solution provider each conduct themselves via the Web) all play their part. As it may have been expected, there are emerging trends that Cloud vendors are making ties to positions them to be key palyers in fierce competitiong in SaaS/Cloud computing markets. Here is very timely report by Smoothspan. Cloud Computing Keiretsu: VMWare + Elastra, Amazon + RightScale + EngineYardPosted by smoothspan on December 31, 2008A keiretsu (系列, keiretsu? lit. system or series) is a set of companies with interlocking business relationships and shareholdings. So says Wikipedia.As the competitive landscape for the Cloud Computing World begins to take shape, forming Keiretsus is one of the most important things for the players to be doing at this time. Most of them do not have enough technology they can call their own to create a total solution for their brand. Even mighty Amazon, which comes closest, benefits from software like RightScale’s asset management suite (see my interview of RightScale’s CEO, Michael Crandell). As such, there will be a rush to round out complete suites in these early days through partnerships. This is a normal business pattern and its good news for both the partners and customers. It will lead to more complete solutions, better integration between the components, greater standardization, and it signals the legitimization of the market and the beginnings of a shift from early adopters to the mainstream. In short, it is a sign of great health in momentum for Cloud Computing.The latest news of the impending Keiretsu was the joint announcement that Elastra will partner with VMWare. I saw that one on Twitter this morning, BTW.
